Some Things to Dance to From The New Guy.

Palms Out Sounds 9 Sep 2010, 6:12 am CEST

First off… hello.

My name is Oliver and it will be my pleasure to be the newest inductee into the Palms Out clan/underground militia/secret occult fraternity. I am 20 years old, I have brown eyes, and an eleventh finger hidden in a special place on my body. I use it to hold my loosey cigs. The rest is classified.

Since this is my first, I am going to do a little super-post, starting by shamelessly throwing up a track I just got on XLR8R, who apparently got it from Fader, but it’s definitely worth a re-re-visit.

Lazersword’s Batman is the first peek into what  their upcoming self-titled LP is going to sound like. (Sources say it’ll be out Nov. 2). While maintaining their signature glitchy vibe, they undoubtedly jumped into the same post-garage/dubstep/UK funky/fuckoffwiththereductivegenretagging salmon stream, which has left heavy wobble and giant ear-shattering snares behind to pursue quick, cutty syncopated hits that dance over ethereal and whispery synths and moaning female vocals. These days, it sounds as if the women who used to sing from the front line in popular bassline and garage tracks are now just standing in some far corner of the room, trying to get a word in. I dig it.

In a more club-friendly vein, Bambounou’s remix of Redux and Maelstrom’s “Wide Open” is a heavy swing funky banger. You can listen to clips of all the songs from the “Wide Open EP” on at Maelstrom’s soundcloud.

Also, Lady Saw, one of dancehall’s major (and most physically intimidating) female stars released her new album, “My Way”, yesterday. You can also taste-test to the whole thing here. She released one single for a limited time for free in which she explains the extent of her financially security and sexually alluring anatomy. What does she do with these positive attributes? What else? Party for a really, really long time.

Finally, also from Jamaica, Chimney Records just dropped the Sex Appeal Riddim and it’s got some big names on it. The video below shows all the cats voicing over this one and of course, Bounty Killer is the best and most mesmerizing in the video. Movado’s verse isn’t on the video for some inexplicable reason, but here’s his track below…

Udachi ft. iBeat – Swagger – OUT NOW! (POS020)

Palms Out Sounds 8 Sep 2010, 9:41 pm CEST

The first proper release on Palms Out from long time cohort, Udachi, Swagger features the styling of fellow Staten Islander, iBeat. It’s a charged tropical joyride through new york heavy bass hop, kuduro and rave. An impeccable remix package is started off by the UK’s Baobinga, who gives the original a purple synth tinged juke dicing, full of 808 bottom and tom tom galore. Kansas City’s Tactic turn in an ultra modern dembow remix, while Trouble & Bass’s own AC Slater delivers a heavy bass stomper for the ages. Not one to get lost in the mix, Sweden’s Andreas Bygdell (1/4 of The Touch) delivers a sexy saxophone based bumpy house version, with the the naughtiest breakdown imaginable. Last up, Johnny Love aka. Deathface, formerly of Guns n Bombs, takes us out with a bang – a monstrous, dark dubstep version. Also included is an instrumental version & artwork painted by John Dessereau.

Out now on Beatport, iTunes, Juno, Turntable lab.

As a free giveaway – we are offering up the instrumental – so play it loud, then cop the rest of the release! And any emcees out there who feel inspired, use dis riddim!

Brenmar

Discobelle.net 7 Sep 2010, 5:59 am CEST

Brooklyn producer and member of These Are Powers – William Salas AKA Brenmar – will release his debut EP right here on Discobelle Records in late October. The EP will contain 4 original tracks + remixes from British heavy hitters Ikonika & Optimum and juke legend DJ Rashad. Without giving away too much, we can only say that Brenmar will pulverize dancefloors with this one.

In order to add a little fan to the flame, here’s a new offering from Brenmar entitled “Back Beating” which swerves into juke territory but with an exquisite hook that speaks lovingly to that pop part of your brain. (Via Mixpak)

Non Tiq – Quiet Remix Contest

Discobelle.net 6 Sep 2010, 8:03 pm CEST

Non Tiq, alias Nora Lindqvist, grew up in a musical family in a small town in the northern part of Sweden. In 2008 she met the producer Karol Machata in Stockholm who shared her vision and began recording songs with her.

“We have the same idea of the creating music, and are both very spontaneous. To make music is much like kids playing. Often you get lost, get in on the wrong path and have to start over again. But sometimes you find exactly what you’re looking for, while you’re still lost”, Non Tiq.

Non Tiq’s melodies are captivating with lyrics colored by relational dilemmas and personal darkness. The music has a razor-sharp clarity, and is often melancholic but yet danceable. Non Tiq’s debut single “Quiet” is straightforward and a nice sample of the upcoming debut album “Love Machine”, set for release in 2011. Addeboy Vs. Cliff, producers of the hit “My Cool” with Adam Tensta, and the electronica pioneers Suck Shaft have also contributed with two remixes.

Now Discobelle and Playground Music wants you to impress us with your remix of ‘Quiet’, Non Tiq’s amazing debut single and be considered for a digital release via Playground Music. We’ll also throw in 10 Playground CDs of your choice! Deadline for the competition is 15th of October. Download all the steams and get all the info on the competiton here.

Its status as 'anonymous' / 'untitled' of course made it all the more intriguing. Haunting deep house with a gloriously unexpected intro.

Voltron DJ’s – City Lights & Sleepless Nights Mix

Discobelle.net 6 Sep 2010, 4:01 pm CEST

Voltron DJ’s along with the Silverback Recordings label (which they run together with Ultravid) down in Belgium have emerged as one of the top class labels when it comes to the bastardized breed of r ‘n’ b/grime/uk funky infused bassfilled dance music that we’ve grown accostumed to thanks to some banging releases on labels such as Night Slugs, Palms Out, Numbers et al. We here at Discobelle are proud to present this exclusive mix, which is in our opinion is one of the best mixes of 2010, this mix has a little something for everyone with some classics and of course some exclusive forthcoming tunes. This mix is a true display of the skill and talent that these guys possess.

“For this mixtape we tried to make a representative selection of the artists and labels we really like the most right now. It contains pretty much everything we’re in for: UK underground, old school straight forward house cuts, some peak time sophisticatedness, bass-driven drama, …next to the obligatory personal demos for our upcoming EP, that we’re working on and already got altered a dozen times in the mean time (as tends to happen with demos). We didn’t forget to feature some future Silverback Recordings – the label we run together with Ultravid – either! We’re really busy with these projects, so we had some long nights fitting the mixtape in and getting it done properly… hence the title! It was well worth it of course, and we hope you enjoy too!!
